Microbiology

The goal of teaching Microbiology is to provide understanding of the natural history of infectious diseases in order to deal with the aetiology, pathogenesis, pathogenicity, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of these infections and infectious diseases.
To achieve this goal the Dept. follows a course curriculum laid down by the University (Maharashtra University of Health Sciences) & also carries out different investigations.

  1. The Department of Microbiology has three primary responsibilities such as Teaching/Training, Diagnostic Laboratory Services and Research Activities.
  2. The Microbiology Department is actively involved in teaching undergraduates (MBBS & PG-DMLT) and postgraduates (MD).
  3. The Microbiology Laboratory offers quality diagnostic services to the various clinical departments which includes Bacterial Culture & Sensitivity, Serological tests, Mycology, Infection Control services, Mycobacteriology.
  4. The department is a recognized microscopy center under RNTCP. The department is also recognized under ICTC programme.
  5. Tests that have been added in the recent years to meet the diagnostic needs of the hospital include, RT PCR for Influenza H1N1.
  6. The Department has NABL accredited Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory for H1N1 and the Laboratory is approved by ICMR for COVID-19 testing. The Department is doing the RTPCR for Covid 19 actively in the Covid 19 pandemic.
