    4. A very relevant and practically oriented guest lecture was delivered by eminent vascular surgeon Dr. Atul S Jadhav on 13th December 2021. It gave an enlightening overview of the early diagnosis and prompt management of various vascular trauma.
    5. Live Surgical Demonstration Workshop on Basics of Arthroscopy. Doyens of the field like 𝗗π—₯. π—¦π—”π—–π—›π—œπ—‘ π—§π—”π—£π—”π—¦π—©π—œ& 𝗗π—₯. π—¦π—›π—œπ—₯π—œπ—¦π—› π—£π—”π—§π—›π—”π—ž operated on select shoulder and knee cases at MIMER. They enlightened the delegates with their wisdom during the live surgery workshops. They shared the pearls and perils of Arthroscopy surgery on 1st Oct. 2021(Friday). The workshop was attended by almost 600 delegates across India.
    6. GUEST LECTURE – 5th July 2021 Topic – Abdominal and thoracic trauma Presented by :- Dr Sachin Naik ( Professor and Head of Department of Surgery, MIMER Medical college, Talegaon).
    7. Guest Lecture on Basics of Ilizarov technique by Dr. Ashish Ranade on 28th June 2021. In a brilliantly illustrated talk, Dr. Ranade simplified the mechanics of the procedure for the PGs.
    8. Guest Lecture by Dr Satish Sonar on Arthroscopy of the knee joint on Jun 8, 2021. Dr. Sonar enumerated the basic skills and knowledge base that would help the young PGs to have a firm footing for their future endeavors.
    9. Guest lecture on Blunt Injuries of Chest and Abdomen by Dr.Sachin Naik ( Professor and Head of Department of Surgery, MIMER Medical college, Talegaon) on 25th May 2021.
    10. Guest lecture on Basics of skin flaps and grafting- by Dr. Atul Gowerdhan on 17th February 2021. With increasing number of compound fractures, it becomes imperative for all budding orthopedic surgeons to be well versed in skin flaps, grafting and their post op care. Dr. Gowerdhan clarified all the doubts to a hilt.
    11. Principles of Deformity Correction around the knee by Dr. Ashish Ranade on 22nd January 2021. Thorough knowledge of paediatric deformities are imperative through orthopedic training. Dr. Ranade delivered a brilliant lecture detailing the treatment outline for the same. The additional support for theory exam questions was indeed a bonus.
    12. Orientation to the PG course : a two-day activity conducted by the department to orient the PG students to the working of the department and the institute.
    13. Horizon- the Path Ahead, lectures on the various avenues that are available for practice after completing post graduation in orthopaedics- 7th,8th, 9th and 11th October 2020. A plethora of orthopedic surgeons met across on line platforms to guide newly passed and exam going PGs on their future career avenues.
    14. LECTURE & DEMONSTRATION ON CTEV (Clubfoot) by Dr. Sameer Desai on 29th June 2020. Dr. Desai, a well known paediatric orthopedic surgeon from Pune, gave an enlightening seminar on the treatment of CTEV and also lectured on how to present an ideal short case on the same topic.

A two day national level activity byIndian Surgical Society for Hand (ISSH) was conducted by the department – Basic Hand Surgery Course on 22nd and 23rd February 2020

  • It was attended by various national faculty and delegates. The event saw a pan-India participation. Stalwarts of hand surgery like Dr. Anil Bhat, Dr. Abhijeet Wahegaonkar, Dr. Ajit Tiwari and Dr. S. Prashanth guided the delegates on complex topics of the hand.
  • Cadaveric Hand Surgery Workshop was conducted by the department on 21st February 2019 under the aegis of Indian Surgical Society for Hand (ISSH) 36 fortunate orthopaedic surgeons participated in the activity and got an opportunity to practice complex surgical procedures on cadaveric hands. The were guided in every step by eminent hand and micro vascular surgeons of India.
  • Guest Lecture : Update on Paediatric Elbow by Rajeev Nirawane on 30th January 2020. A simple and thoughtful lecture on the intricacies of the topic.
  • 2nd State Level Post Graduate Orthopaedic Quiz was conducted by the department. The second such event conducted by us. It saw the knowledge of all budding orthpods being tested to the limit. 28 PG students from different institutes of the state participated in the same. CME was also organized by the department on 21st September 2019 that saw live cases of spine being presented to eminent faculty and examiners.
  • Guest Lecture on Recent Advances in Investigations and Treatment in Rheumatology by Dr. Nilesh Patil on 30th August 2019.
  • Overview of Nuclear Medicine- Guest Lecture by Dr. Shrikant Solav on 24th July 2019. Dr. Solav is a pioneer in the field of nuclear imaging and diagnostics in India. He gave a thought provoking lecture on the topic to stimulate an interest in the field amongst our students. He took this opportunity to announce an exiting tie up with our institute.
  • Guest Lecture on Office Orthopaedics by Dr. Sampat Dumbre-Patil on 3rd July 2019. Dr. Dumbre Patil is a celebrated ankle and foot surgeon from Pune. His talk was lined by interesting and useful anecdotes. The students greatly benefited from his practical experience that nuanced even small points like when is the best time to buy your shoe.
  • Sanjeev Kashyap, Consultant (Prosthetics & Orthotics) made a comprehensive 2-hour presentation/ demonstration on the recent advances in prostheses and orthotics on 6th June 2019.
  • Guest Lecture on Complex Spinal Deformities by Dr. Shailesh Hadgaonkar on 18 February 2019. Young orthopods as well as spine surgeons benefitted from this talk on such a complex topic. He vividly explained detailed surgeries via diagrams and surgical videos.
  • MIMER Spine Cadaveric Hands-on Workshop conducted by the department (14th Feb’19). A memorable event in the calendar of everyone who was a part of it. Spine surgeons across Pune guided 40 delegates through the maze of complex spinal surgeries. Delegates got the chance to insert pedicle screws and operate the cervical spine on cadavers. We greatly benefitted from the excellent mentor to student ratio.
  • Guest Lecture by Dr. Yogesh Panchwagh on Benign Musculo skeletal tumours- Minimally invasive Management on 14th September 2018. Orthopedic oncology is an emerging and interesting topic for all orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Panchwagh made a detailed presentation and even showed the proper examination protocol to be followed on live patients.
  • Workshop on Orientation to Trauma Life Supports on 10th June 2018. Departments of Anaesthesia and Orthopedics came together to organize this workshop to orient under graduate and post graduate students to the primary management to be followed in a poly trauma patient.
  • Guest Lecture on Advances in Osteoarthritis by Dr. Parag Sancheti on 10th March 2018. One of the most celebrated orthopedic surgeons of India, guided the students and faculty of MIMER in recent protocols of management for osteoarthritis. He also enumerated his own experiences in treatment of same and the challenges he faced.
  • Guest lecture by Dr.Shirish Pathak (eminent shoulder surgeon and sports medicine consultant) on 21st December 2018 on the rational way to approach a patient with shoulder or knee complaints.
  • Guest Lecture by Dr. Chetan Pradhan on Recent concepts in Geriatric trauma on 25th November 2018.
  • 1st State level PG Quiz and CME on 25th September 2017. A first of its kind event conducted by the department. It saw a multitude of students across Maharashtra being pitted against each other in this battle of wits as their knowledge was tested in every way.

 

‘Guest Lecture’ was delivered by Dr.Abhijit Joshi, (Diabetic Foot Surgeon at Jahangir, Chellaram& KEM Hospitals) in the department of Orthopedics, MIMER on 5th August 2017 on Diabetic Foot.
