Over the past half century, focus of mental health care has changed from institutionalizations to psychiatry treatment in the community. As result, general hospital psychiatry units as those in medical colleges have become important. Department of Psychiatry is functioning since 1995 with the inception of the Institute. It has 30 bed inpatient and fully equipped OPD facility. Department conducts speciality clinics in psychiatry, also provides community outreach mental health services through different centers attached to the institute. It regularly arranges CMEs, workshops, guest lectures, awareness programs, life skill training for students, school health programs etc. Department is equipped with modern facilities like ECT machine, Biofeedback Machine, EEG facility and psychological testing facility. Department is at forefront in training in psychiatry. Department has got approval for Two MD psychiatry Postgraduate seats from the year 2021.
