Ophthalmology
As part of the undergraduate curriculum, MIMER Medical College started an ophthalmology department in 1995. Since then, Dr. Smita Pawar has played a crucial role in developing clinical services as well as implementing the department’s educational programs. The post graduate (MS Ophthalmology) Course was started in 2011. Presently the department is recognized for intake of 5 MS ophthalmology seats by NMC.
Our daily outpatient volume is around 100, and we perform around 200 operative procedures per month. The department is equipped with the latest equipment’s like Humphrey Perimeter, fundus Camera, FFA facilities, OCT machine, AB scan with pachymeter, YAG laser, Green laser and NCT (Non-Contact Tonometer) Machine.The operation theatre is equipped with 2 carl zeiss operating microscopes .Out of which one has an assistant port for teaching, XY coupling for vitrectomy and video recording facility. High-end phacoemulsification with Anterior vitrectomy machine is available for cataract surgery. The department carries out various research activities both as a part of PG dissertation work , MUHS research grant projects, ICMR and independent research projects.
The department has been associated with the National program for control of blindness and carries outreach rural screening programs and operative work in hospital.
