Services Anatomy

Department of Anatomy provides the following services

1. Body Donations: Body donation also called Deh Dan is the donation of body after death for the purpose of Medical education & research. Department of Anatomy MIMER Medical College is Registered under Bombay Anatomy act and is receiving Body Donations since 1997. Person willing to donate body is registered by filling Body donation form. Registered person is provided with unique body donation I card. Donations are accepted from Maval region, Lonavala , Pimpri – Chinchwad and any area within the radius of 35 Kms & Free Ambulance service is provided by the institute to receive the body 24 hours a day. These cadavers are embalmed in the department so they can be stored for a longer duration for the purpose of Medical education & research.

2. Bone Bank / Library: Since last few years’ students are using artificial bones made of PVC plastic for the purpose of study due to scarcity of human bones. In Department of Anatomy MIMER Medical College; Bones are retrieved from un-embalmed cadavers by prolonged process of maceration & drying. These bones are also used for purpose of Medical education & research. Students can borrow the bones for studying while they are in department premises. Till date approximately 2500 bone have been retrieved.

3. Museum as educational tool: The museum displays all gross anatomy specimens which is also an excellent educational tool for all UG/PG students and faculties of the institute. Various schools plan the visit of our museum for the purpose of educating their students.

4. Integrating the knowledge of Anatomy with other pre-clinical and clinical subjects.

5. Applying the knowledge of Anatomy with the newer investigation techniques.

6. To have interactive workshops with other medical colleges.

7. Updating the curriculum and examination pattern in the interest of students.

The Department also accepts Human cadavers for the purpose of medical education and Research. These cadavers are embalmed in the departments and can be stored for a longer duration for the similar purpose. The department also provides human bones to students for their studies. These bones are prepared here from the cadavers by the process of Maceration and drying.
